Could International Relations Be Fruitfully Considered Like the Flow of Traffic?
Shifting the Paradigm of How Humanity Interrelates
I just had a thought. What if international trade and commerce and shipping of goods were like the flow of traffic? If we consider this metaphor, then we realize what a high degree of cooperation, awareness, and agreement to follow the rules of the road are required.
We may have an occasional accident that delays traffic, and slowdowns caused by weather. But it’s not a race, just the daily ebb and flow of traffic. If we think of our relations with other countries in the context of daily traffic that requires considerable cooperation instead of a competition or a global map of hot spots and conflict that may require military intervention, then we may gain a perspective that enables humanity to go forward.
